The AMERICAN-ARAB ANTI-DISCRIMINATION COMMITTEE (ADC) is a civil rights organization committed to defending the rights of people of Arab descent and promoting the rich cultural heritage. ADC, which is non-profit, non-sectarian and non-partisan, is the largest Arab-American grassroots organization in the United States. It was founded in 1980 by former United State Senator James Abourezk and has chapters nationwide, and members in all 50 states.

With headquarters in Washington, DC, the organization operates offices in Massachusetts, Michigan, California, New Jersey, Ohio, and Texas. ADC welcomes members of all faiths, backgrounds, and ethnicities. Sara Najjar-Wilson is currently ADC’s president.

ADC IS NOW CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO CIVIL AND HUMAN RIGHTS, and remains committed to building bridges with other communities and forging coalitions with organizations throughout the country on issues of mutual concern.

ADC’s Communication Department challenges defamation, stereotyping, and bias in films, television and news reporting. The Communication Department’s staff has made thousands of appearances on major national and international media outlets.

Through its Legal Department, ADC offers counseling in cases of discrimination and defamation, and provides assistance in selected litigation. Since September 11, ADC attorneys have been addressing hundreds of cases and have filed briefs and lawsuits against airlines for discrimination on the basis of ethnicity and national origin, in addition to counseling and assisting victims of anti-Arab hate crimes. The Legal Department works with the United States Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice, Department of Transportation, and other agencies in successful efforts to effect policy change.

The Government Affairs affiliate of ADC works with Congress, the White House, the State and Justice Departments, as well as other elements of government to promote the interests of the community.

The Education and Outreach Department works with schools, teachers and Arab-American parents across the country to combat discrimination and tension in schools and ensures that the curricula do not perpetuate stereotypes or misinformation about the Arab world or Islam.

ADC's Organization Department mobilizes the community by coordinating the efforts of chapters, local offices, and activists across the nation and directing ADC’s national campaigns. As a grassroots organization, ADC’s successes depend on the work of dedicated volunteers and activists.

The IT Department manages ADC’s website (ADC.org). The IT Department provides totally safe and secured online access to membership transactions and donations and for purchasing ADC’s merchandise. The ADC’s website allows the users to send letters to Congress and also provides information about all departments of ADC.

All of this would not be possible without the vital and generous donation of our members and friends. ADC Departments: Legal, Government, Education, Media, Organizing and Information Technology rely on the support of donors and continue their cultural work in protecting the civil and human rights of the Arab-American community.

This is a crucial time for ADC and Arab Americans. ADC’s success is dependent on the support and commitment of its members and donors. Your contribution will help combat discrimination, celebrate our rich cultural heritage, and promote a just US policy towards our relatives and the people in the Arab world.
