ADC Mourns Passing of Ibrahim Abu Lughod

ADC is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Professor Ibrahim Abu Lughod in Ramallah yesterday. Dr. Abu Lughod was one of most important Palestinian intellectuals of his generation, and one of the founders of Arab-American political organizing. Among the numerous organizations he helped establish was the Arab-American University Graduates (AAUG), the first major national Arab-American political group. Dr. Abu Lughod's pioneering work in scholarship on the history and politics of Palestine was instrumental in developing awareness of and support for the Palestinian cause in the United States. Dr. Abu Lughod's work, including studies and books written many decades ago, are still among the most widely used and influential in the field. He was a committed activist throughout his life, and in the 1990s returned to Palestine to live and work in Ramallah. Ibrahim Abu Lughod was a great scholar, a committed activist and a sincere patriot. His death is a great loss. ADC extends deep condolences to his family.

The funeral will be held this Saturday in Palestine. Memorial services and commemorations in the United States are being planned and we will update you when specifics become available.
