Orlando Arab Americans Donate $50,000 to Red Cross Fund

City of Orlando Mayor Glenda E. Hood expressed her appreciation Monday to the Orlando-area Arab-American community for their generous donation of more than $50,000 to the American Red Cross. Mayor Hood then added her voice to those of many others in the nation’s leadership who warned against targeting Arab Americans in vengeful reaction to the tragedy of September 11. “Terrorism wears no particular color,” she said, “Arab Americans died in these incidents too, and we cannot compound their grief with isolation. ‘United we stand’ applies to every American, regardless of race, color, religion or creed.” The Arab-American contribution constituted some 21 percent of all donations to the Orlando Red Cross thus far. ADC congratulates the Arab-American community of Orlando, and urges other communities to emulate this marvelous effort. Donations can also be made to ADC's worldwide fund drive for victims of the attacks. Instructions on how to donate to the ADC fund can be found at ADC.org at <http://www.adc.org/press/2001/15september2001.htm>.
