In a letter dated February 8, ADC called on President George W. Bush to distance himself from anti-Islamic statements attributed to Attorney General Ashcroft and demanded the latter's immediate resignation. Today, February 11, Attorney General Ashcroft's office confirmed to ADC that Attorney General Ashcroft did indeed make these anti-Islamic comments. However, they added that this statement was taken out of context. ADC does not accept the fact that the Attorney General of the United States would make such a blatantly inflammatory and bigoted statement. ACTION REQUESTED: We ask that you contact the President of the United States and the office of the Attorney General to demand Ashcroft's immediate resignation. Click here for online form. Or, send messages to: Office of the Attorney General Email: AskDOJ@usdoj.gov
President George W. Bush Email: president@whitehouse.gov
BACKGROUND: Men
of Faith in Washington, D.C., Need Our Prayers Crosswalk.com News Channel - People are always asking me if there are good leaders in Washington. There are. There are quite a few, but you don't often hear about them because many of them aren't engaging inscandalous or self-serving activities. One such good person is Attorney General John Ashcroft. I had thepleasure of interviewing him again this week for a column I'm writing. During the interview, Ashcroft said something so profound, I wanted toshare it with you. Listen ... this is good. The attorney general of the United States said, "Islam is a religion in which God requires you to send your son to die for him. Christianity is a faith in which God sends his son to die for you." I'm going to repeat it. John Ashcroft said, "Islam is a religion in which God requires you to send your son to die for him. Christianity is a faith in which God sends his son to die for you." If you are not already doing so, pray for this good man and for the president and the many others in government here in Washington who seek to follow the will of God ... the real God, who has sent His Son to die for all. |
