The ADC Summer Interns attended the National Council for U.S.-Arab Relations’ Model Arab League (MAL) Program this weekend at Georgetown University. Similar to a Model U.N. conference, Model Arab League reenacts international diplomacy in the Arab world while students develop working knowledge of politics, history, international relations, leadership and public speaking skills. Every summer, NCUSAR hosts a MAL for interns in the D.C. area.

Representing various countries on the Council for Combating Insurgency, Council for Healthcare in Conflict Zones, and Council for Social and Economic Development, the ADC Interns spent their weekend debating various policies that affect countries and citizens in the Arab World.

With over 100 students from D.C., the Interns had the chance to network with students from various organizations around the city, such as the U.S. Department of State, Islamic Relief USA, Education for Peace in Iraq, The Palestine Relief Center, and the Syrian Relief Development.

“This was my first time doing MAL or anything like it. We debated some of the most pressing issues in the Arab world, and it was quite the learning experience,” said Marisa Breathwaite, ADC’s Government Relations Intern.
