GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS Department

NAAA-ADC is the government affairs and lobbying arm of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC). As such, it coordinates the contacts with the Executive and Legislative branches of the U.S. government on all matters relevant to ADC's domestic and foreign policy agenda.

Intern Responsibilities

Interns will be given assignments such as:

  • Researching legislative issues
  • Tracking legislation
  • Documenting legislative votes and congressional actions
  • Drafting legislation
  • Attending hearings and filing reports
  • Responding to congressional inquiries
  • Updating profiles of members of Congress
  • Responding to ADC members regarding congressional inquiries

Issues

  • U.S. policy in the Middle East
  • Civil Rights issues
  • Arab-Israeli affairs
  • Middle East peace process
  • U.S. foreign aid
  • U.S. policy towards Iraq

Qualifications Preferred

  • At least one year of college
  • Good writing skills
  • Some exposure to ADC issues and to the legislative process
  • Personal interest in civil rights and/or foreign policy
