Arab Americans:Toward A National Agenda
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is happy to announce that it will be holding its 20th National Convention from June 12-15, 2003, at the Crystal Gateway Marriott located in Arlington, Virginia. The theme for this year's Convention is "Arab Americans: Toward A National Agenda."
For ADC and the community, this year's Convention will be particularly timely and relevant. The Convention will, as always, serve to be the largest annual gathering of Arab Americans and supporters to meet, organize, and plan activities.
The Convention provides participants with the opportunity to attend informative panel discussions, workshops, and speeches on civil rights, domestic and foreign policy issues, as well as other matters, supplying the attendees with the essential tools needed for empowerment.
Workshops for activists will include strategies for safeguarding civil rights, understanding immigration issues, organizing, and media relations, among others.
As with previous Conventions, the first day of the Convention (Thursday,June 12) will be dedicated to lobbying Congress. As this is our opportunity to show Congress the strength of our community, we strongly encourage all prospective attendees to register to vote immediately, if you are not already registered to vote.
Members of Congress regularly check voter registration logs to assess the voting status of their constituency. By registering to vote, your representative in Congress will know immediately that you are a potential voter in their district.
The importance of leveraging constituent pressure to hold members of Congress accountable to those who elect them should not be underestimated.
For information on registering to vote, see www.adc.org
