HRH Prince El Hassan of Jordan Addresses Packed Auditorium
Washington, DC — On Wednesday, September 28, ADC was pleased to host HRH Prince El-Hassan Bin Talal of Jordan and his daughter, Princess Badia. Following a private reception, HRH Prince El Hassan addressed a packed auditorium at Georgetown University’s ICC Auditorium. The lecture was sponsored by the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), Georgetown University’s Lecture Fund, and Georgetown University’s Center for Contemporary Arab Studies. In his speech, entitled “The Middle East and Human Security: Dialogue Over Conflict,” HRH stressed the importance of fostering cross cultural communications as a means to establishing a common code of humanitarian conduct throughout the world. HRH focused on peace efforts in the Middle East, and elsewhere, and urged world communities to set aside localized affiliations and to reach out to each other. He also highlighted the importance of integrating media with education as part of the effort to enhance and improve news coverage and provoke debate. “We know about embedded journalism,” HRH said, “but why not also have embedded scholars?” HRH’s lively, and at times humorous, speech was followed by a question and answer session, in which guests eagerly inquired about diverse issues. Among the questions were, the role of US aid in the Middle East, the current situation in Iraq, and Arab nationalism. ADC President Mary Rose Oakar said, "HRH Prince El Hassan's commitment to education, humanitarianism, and a 'culture of peace' runs very deep. ADC thanks him for his work and his remarks."
