ADC Engaged with communities in Florida and New York

Washington, DC | www.adc.org | September 9, 2010 – The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) commends the voices of tolerance and understanding that have spoken against the planned “Burn a Quran Day.”  The event, organized by a “Dove World Outreach Center” church in Gainesville, Florida, has been met with strong opposition in response to its hateful and bigoted intentions and messaging.  Voices opposing the event have come from government officials, community leaders, religious leaders, and international leaders.  ADC has been engaged with the local communities in Florida, as well as the appropriate government authorities, to ensure the safety of the Arab and Muslim communities.

ADC has also been engaged with communities in New York, and will be taking part in events over the weekend promoting unity and tolerance.  ADC will be represented by ADC Legal Director, Abed Ayoub, at the “Synopsis of Critical Thinkers:  How the World Changed after 9/11.”  The two-day conference can be viewed online by visiting www.howtheworldchanged.org.  Those in New York can attend by purchasing tickets at www.howtheworldchanged.org.

In response to the proposed act of incitement and prejudice by the misnamed “Dove Center,” a coalition of inter-faith groups has planned a series of counter events in the State of Florida.  ADC encourages members in Florida to participate in the counter events and stand for equality and justice.  The events   over the next three days include:
