The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) sponsored the seventeenth annual Arabian Sights Film Festival: Contemporary Arab Cinema. This year's Arabian Sights, presented by the Washington DC International Film Festival, featured new and innovative films from today’s Arab world. The 2012 festival took place from October 25 – November 4 in conjunction with 1001 Inventions: Discover the Golden Age of Muslim Civilization, The National Geographic Society’s award-winning exhibit dedicated to the history of science and technology in the Islamic civilization during the Golden Age.

The 10 films featured hailed from countries including Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, among others and covered a broad range of subjects. The festival included guest film directors, American premiers, and post-screening receptions. Each film was screened with English subtitles.

This year’s Audience Award for favorite film went to El Gusto, directed by Safinez Bousbia (Algeria, France). The Talent to Watch Award, which recognizes the achievements of emerging filmmakers and encourages important new talent from around the world, went to Heels of War, directed by Joe Bou Eid (Lebanon, UAE).

ADC is pleased to have participated as a sponsor this year and looks forward to next year’s festival. Read about the 2012 festival and films.
