ADC is proud to join the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights (LCHR), the American Bar Association (ABA), Amnesty International, Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc., Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, Church World Service and other member organizations of the Detention Watch Network (DWN) Advisory Committee in coordinating the Fifth Annual Detention Watch Network Conference.
The national tragedy of September 11 has had a significant impact on immigration detention policy. The continued collaborative efforts of the DWN are more critical now than ever. We need to strategize on how to most effectively work together to reform immigration detention policy and to increase direct services to those in detention. Join us for the Fifth Annual Detention Watch Network (DWN) Conference!
The conference, coordinated by LIRS in partnership with ADC and the other member organizations of the DWN Advisory Committee, will be held September 19-22, 2002 at the Hyatt Fair Lakes in Fairfax, Virginia (a Washington, D.C. suburb). The conference will begin with an advocacy day on Thursday, September 19. The other days will be filled with expert speakers and informative and interactive workshops, trainings, discussions, and strategy sessions with great opportunities to network with others involved in detention work. The conference will bring together policy advocates, community leaders, legal, social, and religious service providers, volunteers, experts, and others from across the country. Through this conference, we hope to develop strategies to bring the plight of those in detention to the forefront, and to focus on advocacy for policy
change.
