ADC-Michigan Emphasizes Inclusion on “Egg-Stravaganza” issue in Dearborn

Dearborn, MI | www.adcmichigan.org | April 7, 2014 - Attorney Fatina Abdrabboh, the Director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) Michigan office, participated in a press conference with community leaders at the Dearborn Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning April 6, 2014. The press conference was held to address issues associated with the recent “Eggstravaganza” event organized by the Presbyterian church in Dearborn.

During the press conference Ms. Abdrabboh commended Muslim and Christian leaders in attendance for their attempts to promote the public good via inclusion, unity, and diversity. Yet, the ADC Michigan cautioned against any disruptive break in the separation of church and state in public institutions, which the Arab community has often been victim of.

Abdrabboh said, “The relationship is a fluid one, and our job as a civil rights organization is to assess and examine it in all the instances brought before us.”

The ADC-Michigan views public schools as microcosms of America’s broader religious diversity and promotes all forms of dialogue that are predicated upon upholding the separation of church and state principle. Ms. Abdrabboh commented that the “Eggstravaganza” brings to light the needed work of ADC-Michigan and its continued role in “advocating for and creating opportunities and spaces for meaningful encounters between the spectrum of diversity within our communities.”

The ADC-Michigan understands that fruitful interfaith cooperation has broad civic relevance and can be instrumental in empowering a wide scope of people to promote civic good.  She emphasized the importance of civic engagement further by suggesting that “empowering and educating our respective fellow citizens is key to building stronger communities”.
